Intel Vaunt Smart Glasses Project Shutdown
Those of you hoping to get your hands on the new Intel Vaunt smart glasses which were unveiled a few months ago by Intel, will be disappointed to learn that the company has now decided to scrap the project and close down the development team working on the new smart glasses. Intel has this week released a statement explaining the closure stating :
“Intel is continuously working on new technologies and experiences. Not all of these develop into a product we choose to take to market. The Superlight [the codename for Vaunt] project is a great example where Intel developed truly differentiated, consumer augmented reality glasses. We are going to take a disciplined approach as we keep inventing and exploring new technologies, which will sometimes require tough choices when market dynamics don’t support further investment.”
To learn more about what could have been check out the demonstration by the Verge website published earlier this year providing a demonstration on the Intel Vaunt Smart Glasses design to access information from your Android or iOS smartphone using a companion application. Rather than using a display in front of your eye the Intel smart glasses were equipped with a VCSEL laser projector that would beam a 400 x 150 pixel red monochrome image onto the lens, which would be reflected back to your eye. If Intel releases any further details on new smart glass technology or projects we will keep you up to speed as always.
